Why don’t people get tickets/arrested at Hempfest?
My friends and I are going to Hempfest tomorrow, and we are just wondering WHY people don’t get weed tickets? (I live in Massachusetts, so we get $100 ticket if we get caught with less than an ounce) … but at Hempfest in Boston, everyone smokes in the park and there are even cops there but nobody gets "weed tickets" or arrested and you KNOW some people have more than an ounce on them! My question is Why don’t we get in trouble for smoking pot in public!?!
These kind of festivals can be a big boon to local business owners, who will "arrange" with the local police to ignore pot smokers. The word spreads when people begin to figure out the cops allow their festivals, which also satisfies the local business owners even more. At that point, the cops only get involved if they need to make a farcical show of law and order.
This dynamic is openly apparent at state universities, many which support the existence of lucrative local head shops.
The US has de facto decriminalization for rich out of state college students, while at the same time imprisoning local low income drug dealers-who dont provide the state with income and thus are fodder for the local "justice" system.
